Medical Diagnostics
Scientific Solutions was instrumental in the development of a non-homogeneous field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. Non-homogeneous field techniques also have applications in medical laboratory instruments for assaying concentrations of interesting chemical compounds. This technology could lead to new types of medical diagnostic instruments that would replace some of the wet chemistry techniques currently being used to assay medical samples–resulting in turn-around times of a few seconds rather than the few hours required for the current technology. Click HERE for a discussion of new areas for development in MRI and NMR technology.
Scientific Solutions’ experience in the development of tomographic image reconstruction for particle beam diagnostics is directly applicable to medical imaging and to the creation of two-dimensional tomographic maps from a series of one-dimensional measurements. One possible example is the use of tomographic reconstruction to produce an image of the electrical conductivity pathways of a heart that would be used to guide the surgeon in heart ablation surgery.
Scientific Solutions personnel have worked within an FDA-regulated medical device development environment that ensured the quality and traceablility of the products developed and of the components comprising those products.
